Frequently Asked Questions
Are your cabinets Custom or Semi-Custom?
100% Custom. We never use stock sizes then fill in unused space or cover it with trim material. If you have a 34 7/8 ” opening, we build a 34 7/8 ” cabinet, utilizing the entire space and providing a better value.
What is your cabinet construction? What type of materials do you use?
All of our products are handcrafted using solid, furniture grade wood. We never use particle board, plastic supports or plastic fasteners.
How long have you been in business? How many years cabinetmaking experience do you have?
The Town Carpenter was established in 1999, though we have served the Atlanta marketplace since 1989. Each of our craftsmen has 20-25 years cabinetmaking experience.
Where is your cabinetry manufactured?
Our shop is located in DeKalb County, Georgia in a suburb of metro Atlanta.
Do you have a true cabinet shop or are you working out of your garage or house?
We have a 3400 square foot production and finish facility in a commercial office park. Visitors are welcome by appointment.
How is the paint or stain finish applied? Can you provide a true furniture grade finish in your facility?
We have a state-of-the-art spray booth and only use furniture grade stains, lacquers and paints to insure a beautiful high-end finish.
Do you just make kitchen and bath cabinets or can you provide custom cabinetry throughout my house?
We provide all types of custom cabinetry and woodworking, including kitchen and bath cabinetry, trim work, display cases and cabinets, bookcases and entertainment centers, desks, libraries, computer workstations, etc. for your home or office.
Do you work with builders?
Yes, but only those whose standards are higher than what is typically referred to as “builder grade” product. We are not willing to sacrifice quality for high volume, therefore our cabinetry products are often far superior to those found in most homes.
Have you or your products ever been featured in home or design magazines or on a designer show?
Our products have been featured in Icon Magazine, Today’s Custom Home Magazine, and Atlanta Home Improvement Magazine. Our cabinetry was also used in The Alliance Theater Christmas House and The Atlanta Symphony Designer House. We were chosen to provide custom products and appear in two episodes of HGTV’s Designer’s Challenge that aired in 2005 and 2006.
Do you provide a written estimate? Are there any additional or hidden costs, such as tear-out, delivery or installation?
We provide a written, itemized estimate that includes all costs.
Do you provide CAD or shop drawings of my project?
Yes, renderings are prepared for each job within two weeks after the initial deposit payment is received.
Can I make changes to my order after the drawings are done?
In fact, we do not proceed with construction until the customer has made any necessary changes and given written approval of the renderings.
Does your product come with any type of warranty?
Our cabinetry has a lifetime warranty on material and workmanship.
What are your payment terms? Do you accept major credit cards?
As is typical for custom work, we usually require a 50% deposit to begin any job, with the final balance being due at the time of installation. Very large jobs may be subject to 50% deposit, 30% on delivery, and 20% upon final installation, but this would be stipulated on the written estimate. All major credit cards are accepted.
